DRAMMEN: For Strømsgodset, it would now have been perfect to take the team’s first victory in football’s elite series in two months. Start is opponent at Marienlyst on Sunday at 18.00. SIF can in fact take a seven-mile step towards a renewed elite series contract with a victory. Start is in qualifying place five points ahead of the navy blues.
But now Godset has been a team that neither loses nor wins in the past. Five draws in a row means that a whimsical club record in the Elite Series has been set. There are also six games in a row without a win. The previous victory was the 3-2 triumph away against Haugesund on 16 August.
These start for Strømsgodset during the match on Sunday: Viljar Myhra, Lars Vilsvik, Duplexe Tchamba, Niklas Gunnarsson, Nicko Mickelson, Ipalibo Jack, Johan Hove, Mikkel Maigaard, Kristoffer Tokstad, Moses Mawa and Lars-Jørgen Salvesen.
SIF coach Henrik Pedersen hopes and believes that his boys can soon win these matches in their favor. The Dane believes Godset has been closest to victory in most draws, and especially against Rosenborg (3-3) and Viking (2-2). In both cases, the Drammen team led by two goals into the final phase, but messed up the victory.
– We have played many good matches this autumn. It’s just to continue the work we do, and focus on getting a little better. Then the margins will eventually go more in our direction, says Pedersen.
If we look at SIF’s statistics against Start, however, it smells like a draw again. The teams’ last five league meetings have actually ended in a tie. The previous meeting was in the series start at Sør Arena in mid-June. Then it was 2-2.
– Start is a team that is at the bottom that has performed better than what the table situation shows. They are well organized and compact defensively, and appear robust physically. The press game is good, and so are the transitions. We must prevent them from hitting posts, which often create dangers, comments the SIF coach.
The last time Strømsgodset beat Start at Marienlyst was in 2015. Then it was 2-1 after a goal by Marcus Pedersen – plus an own goal.
As is well known, SIF must play without corona-infected Kreshnik Krasniqi, plus the Icelanders Ari Leifsson and Valdimar Thór Ingimundarson who are in quarantine.
– The miracle in 96 is one of the greatest moments I have experienced in Godset
