France adds second worst day with 25,086 more cases in the last 24 hours

France recorded 25,086 new covid-19 infections in the last 24 hours, the second highest daily record after the 30,621 cases reported on Thursday, bringing the total confirmed cases to 834,770.

According to French health authorities, 122 deaths have also occurred in the last 24 hours, bringing the total to 33,303 since the pandemic began in that country.

The number of new hospitalizations in the last seven days increased by 6,906, with 1,204 of these patients in intensive care.

The positive index in diagnostic tests today stands at 12.9%, after the 12.6% recorded on Thursday.

The total number of confirmed cases of infection with the new coronavirus in France since the beginning of the pandemic is now 834,770.

The worsening of the numbers led the French Government to decide, on October 14, a curfew in the Paris region and in eight other metropolitan areas of the country, which will come into force at 00:00 on Saturday and will extend for a minimum period of four weeks.

The Government has also banned the celebration of private parties across the country and the application of health security protocols in all restaurants, a measure that until now has only been imposed on establishments in high-alert areas.

The covid-19 pandemic has already claimed more than one million and ninety-nine thousand deaths and almost 39 million cases of infection worldwide, according to a report made by the French agency AFP.

In Europe, the highest number of fatalities is registered in the United Kingdom (43,429 dead, more than 689 thousand cases), followed by Italy (36,427 dead, more than 391 thousand cases), Spain (33,775 dead, more than 936 thousand cases) and France (33,303 dead, more than 834 thousand cases).
