(Celtic – Milan 1-3) Jens Petter Hauge (21) scored and emerged victorious from the “Norwegian” duel against Kristoffer Ajer (22) and Mohamed Elyounoussi (26), who both impressed against the Italian giant.

Milan led 2-0 when Hauge stood on the sidelines and got ready for his Europa League debut. Just before he entered the field, however, another Norwegian substitute ensured a dramatic end to the match. Mohamed Elyounoussi is not known as the most dominant head player, but nodded in the reduction quarter before the end.

However, it was to be Hauge and Milan’s night. In overtime, he scored his first goal for his new club. Bodøværingen received the ball and used two touches to get alone with the goalkeeper. There he rolled the ball safely in – as Norwegian fans have seen him do so many times earlier this season. After the match, he was greeted with a smile and congratulations from “Moi”.

Hauge is the first Norwegian to score for Milan since Steinar Nilsen 22 years ago.

For Celtic, Kristoffer Ajer impressed from time to time. The Milan club has previously shown interest in the Norwegian national team midfielder, who on a number of occasions stopped Zlatan Ibrahimovic and co. Ajer also showed his long splits up the field, and created trouble for the red and blacks’ defense.

However, Ajer’s heroic efforts in his own box were not enough. Milan, who top Serie A after four straight victories, created enough trouble to take the full pot south again. Goals from Rade Krunic and Brahim Díaz ensured Milan’s lead at the break, before two Norwegians made the scoring list after a change of sides.

After a tame first half, however, manager Neil Lennon did not hesitate to send out Mohamed Elyounoussi after the break.

The winger came to a number of useful posts, and eventually he found his way into the box himself. Elyounoussi found space in the box on a corner, and stabbed in the 1-2 score.

Celtic, who rose in the second half, pressed for an equalizer and one point, but time ran out for the home team. Finally, Hauge put the nail in the coffin. In the group’s second match, Lille took a strong away win against Sparta Prague.
