Design e acessrios

Remember the iPhone 5 launched back in 2012 when Apple adopted a flatter design that many considered outdated? Yeah, he came back. The iPhone 12 looks like a mix of iPhone 11 with the old Apple model. The sides have lost their curvature, but the giant notch and bouncing block cameras continue.

The frame around the screen has shrunk and the phone has become smaller and even thinner. The straight sides also improve the grip and even if the iPhone 12 slips out of your hand, it shouldn’t break as easily as before.

The glass covering the screen incorporates nanoceramic crystals that provide four times greater resistance. In tests carried out by third parties we saw that the novelty really fulfills what was promised, but it is good to remember that even though the drop resistance has been improved, the glass can still scratch easily – so using film is as a recommendation to preserve the device for more time.

The IP68 certification was maintained, but now promises water resistance up to 6 meters in depth. This is much more than rivals with Android support. Wireless charging has also evolved and now delivers twice the power, but not with the USB cable that comes with the phone. Called MagSafe, the new wireless charger from Apple sticks to the back of the phone and has a sleek minimalist design with 15W power.

In fact, it is impossible not to comment on the iPhone accessories … or rather, the lack of them. Apple decided to remove the charger and headset from the packaging on the grounds that it will help reduce unnecessary plastic production. The problem is that the Lightning cable that comes with the phone is in the USB-C standard, different from the USB-A standard of the iPhone 11 charger. That is, you will need an adapter or buy a new charger.

The worst thing is to know that this will end up becoming a trend and it should not be long before Android phone manufacturers also follow the same path and remove the charger from the box.

Screen and sound

The screen follows the same 6.1 inches as the iPhone 11, but leaves the LCD panel to adopt the same OLED with HDR10 as the iPhone 12 Pro. The resolution has increased and we have a clearer image with vibrant colors, perfect black and a wide viewing angle. eyesight. The brightness is not as strong as that of the most expensive models, being on the same level as the predecessor. What is striking is the almost perfect calibration to deliver images very close to reality.

It was not this time that we saw a 120 Hz panel on the iPhone. It would marry iOS agile animations very well, but it seems that Apple was more concerned with 5G. Staying stuck at 60 Hz makes it seem like the iPhone 12 arrives out of date, when there are Android intermediaries with a 90 Hz screen. And not even the iPhone 12 Pro Max has a higher speed screen.

The sound part does not disappoint and we continue with stereo sound. The speakers deliver the same volume level as the iPhone 11 and are free of distortion at maximum. They could be better, but at least they help to make up for the lack of headphones in the box. What we notice differently is that we now have a more balanced sound than before, with good reproduction of bass, mids and treble.

Hardware e software

The Apple A14 Bionic is the chip that equips all iPhones this year. It is manufactured in 5 nanometers and promises to be 40% faster than the previous generation. We will soon see how it will perform in our usual speed test. It is good to remember that the iPhone 11 family is still champion in the TudoCelular performance ranking, surpassing all Androids launched in 2020.

The most basic model of the iPhone 12 continues with the same combination of 4 GB for RAM and 64 GB for storage, which is little by the price that Apple charges in the novelty. Yes, the price has increased abroad as we now have the iPhone 12 Mini taking the place of the most affordable iPhone.

What may disappoint is the battery that has shrunk. Apple reduced nearly 300 mAh to make the iPhone thinner. The good news is that the 5nm chip and now OLED screen should help with autonomy and we will confirm this in our tests.

  • 6.1 inch XDR OLED screen with 1170 x 2532 pixels and HDR10
  • Chip Apple A14 Bionic com CPU hexa-core e GPU Apple quad-core
  • 4 GB of RAM
  • 64/128/256 GB of storage
  • 12 MP rear cameras + 12 MP ultra-wide 120 ° fov
  • 12 MP front camera
  • Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC and 5G connectivity

  • iOS 14
  • Dimensions: 146.7 x 71.5 x 7.4 mm
  • Weight: 164 grams
  • IP68 with resistance of 6m for 30min

What you may be concerned about is the 5G connection, which will make the iPhone 12 battery fly fast. It may seem early to worry about it, but iPhone shoppers usually expect to spend a lot of time on their phones. Apple normally guarantees 5 years of updates, and by 2025 we will have 5G present everywhere. This makes the iPhone 12 ready for the future.

The new Apple phone comes with iOS 14, which is already present in older Apple models. The big news is to allow customizing the home screen with widgets – something we’ve been doing on Android for years. There is also the App Library that organizes your apps by categories, to avoid that mess on the home screen. It is now possible to use a keyboard and third-party email client as a standard app, and we’ve also had improvements to the file manager and other features introduced in iOS 13.

The iPhone 12 continues with a 12 MP dual camera, leaving the telephoto lens only for the Pro variants. This means that you will be stuck with the digital only zoom and when you try to go beyond the 2x zoom you will have a marked loss of quality. The camera app is the same one that debuted on iOS 13 with the iPhone 11.

As much as Apple claims that sensors and lenses have evolved to capture better images, the iPhone still lacks sharpness in distant objects. However, the experience you will have in general is good with little noise (even at night), balanced colors and high contrast. We haven’t seen a noticeable improvement compared to the iPhone 11, but we will test all the features of the iPhone 12 cameras for our full review.

What we’ve noticed so far is that ultra-wide is better than before and now supports night mode. The viewing angle has increased to record more of the scenarios and the distortion correction software is more efficient. The quality of the photos is good, but we’ve seen better wide-angle cameras.

Shooting at night just got better with the even more efficient night mode on the iPhone 12. It’s notable that the phone takes less time to save photos and captures images with a high richness of detail and low noise.

The front also follows with the same 12 MP and focal aperture as before. Apple has always excelled in selfies and the iPhone 12 continues to do a great job. You’ll get sharpness, contrast and HDR just right. The 3D sensor helps with background blur and easily outperforms Android rivals.

The camcorder has also evolved. She does not yet record at 8K, but has received improvements in shooting quality, stabilization and fluidity in night scenes. It is now possible to record videos with HDR Dolby Vision, but it is only possible to view these footage on equipment compatible with the technology.

Final considerations

And that’s it, this is the iPhone 12. What did you think of the news? The design has evolved a little, but not as drastic as many wanted. We will thoroughly test to see the performance of the A14 Bionic and how the smaller battery can handle it. What we can say is that the phone has become more resistant with the Ceramic Shield glass, the multimedia experience has improved and the cameras are more tuned to record photos and videos with superior quality. It is clear that the price has risen to accompany such evolution.

The iPhone 12 Mini is now the most affordable model and basically brings everything that the iPhone 12 offers, with only the difference in screen size and battery. Apple has not yet confirmed the values of its new cell phones here in Brazil until the publication of this video, but it is rumored that the iPhone 12 will reach around R $ 8 thousand. Anyway, expect an amount well above the R $ 5,000 that Apple asked for the iPhone 11 at its launch in 2019.
