As a result, the number of cases reported during the health crisis caused by Covid-19 jumped to 93,294. In addition, 2,128 people have died after contracting the disease.
The areas most affected in this second wave of propagation of the new coronavirus continue to be the north of the country, the metropolitan region of Lisbon, in addition to the Tagus Valley.
Portugal on alert
The data confirm the growth of the infection curve in Portugal, which today has raised the level of national alert with restrictions that, among other measures, reduce street meetings and the occupation of restaurants to a maximum of five people.
In addition, the capacity is limited to 50 people for celebrations such as weddings or communions. Non-school educational activities are suspended, and fines for failure to comply with security measures have been increased.
In the meantime, there is an increase in calls for government action in view of the saturation of the health system and in relation to outbreaks in universities, such as the one that affected 200 students in Porto and Aveiro, and nursing homes, as in Beja, where 83 elderly people tested positive for the pathogen.
