Maguito Vilela worsens in covid-19 and is intubated

Candidate for the city of Goiânia (GO), Maguito Vilela (MDB), 71, was intubated this afternoon after the covid-19 situation worsened. He is admitted to the ICU (Intensive Care Unit) of the Albert Einstein hospital, in São Paulo.

The information was released by Vilela’s press office on social media.

“After presenting on Thursday an improvement in pulmonary inflammation caused by covid-19, Maguito Vilela again found it difficult to breathe without oxygen support. In view of this, the medical team at Albert Einstein Hospital decided to introduce invasive mechanical ventilation earlier this afternoon to continue with treatment more effectively, given the new situation. The procedure was also done to preserve lung functions and prevent possible sequelae. Maguito is sedated and all other vital functions are normal, “says the note.

He was transferred from Hospital Orion, in Goiânia, to Einstein on Tuesday (27).

Maguito was diagnosed with the new coronavirus on October 20. He said on the day that he had mild symptoms, such as runny nose and hoarseness, and announced that he would be isolated at home, as health officials recommend. Two days later, he was admitted “on a preventive basis”.

Two of the candidate’s sisters – Nelma, 76, and Nelita, 82 – died in August as a result of the covid-19. He paid tribute to both on social media and thanked all prayers and messages of support received.
