Man dies after being hit by gas cylinder thrown from building in Copacabana, South Zone of Rio | Rio de Janeiro


A man died after being hit by a gas canister thrown from the window on the top floor of a building on Rua Aires Saldanha, in Copacabana, in the South Zone of Rio, on Monday afternoon (12).

The suspect in throwing the canister was arrested by military police and taken to the 13th DP (Ipanema). Then he was taken to the Capital Homicide Police (DHC), which is investigating the case.

RJ2 reported that the suspect was identified as Venilson da Silva Sousa and that, according to the family, he would have mental problems, be undergoing psychological treatment and had had other similar outbreaks previously.

In addition to the cylinder, the suspect threw other objects and part of a stove through the window.

The details of the occurrence and the motivation are still being investigated. The victim has not yet been identified. According to RJ2, witnesses heard that the victim was a man known as Tronco, a resident of Pavão-Pavãozinho, who lived in the region selling fruit.

The street was closed between Miguel Lemos and Djalma Ulrich streets for the expertise work at around 4:50 pm, according to the City Hall Operations Center (COR).
