The Multivaccination and Vaccination Campaigns against Polio entered the last week. The final date for vaccinating children and adolescents under 15 years of age within the campaigns is this Friday, October 30th.

Polyomelite

So far, Santa Catarina has managed to vaccinate in the Campaign against Poliomyelitis half of the total number of children aged between 1 and less than 5 years old who should be vaccinated. From a target population of 342,825 children, 168,825 attended health facilities to take the droplet. It is important to note that in this Campaign all children, regardless of their vaccination status, must be vaccinated.

The immunization manager of the Santa Catarina Epidemiological Surveillance Directorate (DIVE / SC), Lia Quaresma Coimbra, points out that the population of Santa Catarina cannot relax and stop vaccinating their children. “The lack of vaccination leaves us vulnerable. It was thanks to the population’s adherence that we managed to eliminate polio not only in the state, but throughout the country and we do not want it to return ”, he explains.

Brazil has not detected cases of poliomyelitis (infantile paralysis) since 1990 and in 1994 received from the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) the Certification of free area for wild poliovirus circulation in its territory. In Santa Catarina, the last records of the disease were in 1989.

Multivaccination Campaign also continues until the 30th

The update of the vaccination booklet for children and adolescents under 15 years of age also continues until the 30th of this month. In this Campaign, there is no specific numerical goal. The main objective is to be able to rescue children and young people who, for some reason, failed to take the doses indicated in the Basic Vaccination Calendar and, consequently, increase vaccination coverage, decrease the incidence of vaccine-preventable diseases and contribute to the control, elimination and / or eradication of these diseases.
