After the GTI model and, more recently, the GTI Clubsport version, Volkswagen plans to present the highly anticipated new generation Golf R to the public. Anticipated through bustings, projections and, now, official teaser, the news will be revealed on November 4th and will continue to bet strongly on performance and design.
In this last point, the revenue followed by the current generation will be improved. That is, the exclusive accessories in the visual composition will be updated and new features will be incorporated. This is the case of LED lighting on the front grille, in the same layout as the Taos SUV, recently presented. There will also be their own bumpers, wheels and new and more striking colors.
In terms of performance, VW itself has been advertising and creating a lot of expectations. In interviews, Jost Capito, head of the brand’s performance area, said that the new Golf R will be “fantastic” and has been called “the king of performance” internally. Under the hood, the 2.0 TSI engine will receive adjustments to reach about 333 hp – an important jump over the 310 hp of the current model.
There are also plans for an even stronger version, called the R Plus, which would be sold on a limited basis with something around 400 hp to face Mercedes-AMG A45 and Audi RS3 Sportback. In this case, however, the project is still waiting for the green light to be developed.
For Brazil, the expectation of having the Golf 8 is closely related to the electrified sports car GTE, the only version of the hatch offered here, even in the previous generation. The forecast is that the local debut will happen in 2021, only as imported and with restricted sales.
