Norway international postponed: – This was boring

Norway’s women’s national football team will not play against Belarus at Ullevaal next Wednesday. The settlement in the European Championship qualifiers will be moved to over the New Year.

This is stated by the Norwegian Football Association in a press release.

Uncertainty about the contagion situation in the Belarusian squad is stated as the reason why the match will be postponed until February. Strict Norwegian quarantine regulations have also played a role in the decision, which the teams have taken together with the European Football Association (Uefa).

– This was boring. We had looked forward to playing the match at Ullevaal, but there is little to do. We have great respect for the situation in society and must be prepared for this to happen in the time we are in now, says national team manager Martin Sjögren.

Norway tops their European Championship qualifying group superbly after five straight victories, and they only need one more triumph to collect a ticket to the championship in England in 2022. They could secure it against Belarus.

Norway’s next match will be away against Wales on October 27. A draw or victory there will qualify Norway for the European Championships in 2022.

– We change the planning a bit, but get more time than usual for training and working with the details. We will use the time well to prepare for the Wales match as best we can and look forward to a new gathering, says Sjögren.

On 1 December, Norway will face England in a private international match in Sheffield.
