A 28-year-old man, a doctor from Rio de Janeiro, died this Wednesday due to complications related to covid-19. It is still unclear whether he had the vaccine.

The case was confirmed by the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa), which claims to have been notified of the death on October 19 and clarified that “the process remains under evaluation”. It is not yet known whether the Brazilian volunteer will have taken the vaccine or not.

“The data relating to the investigation carried out by the International Security Assessment Committee was shared with the Agency. It is important to note that, based on the ethical confidentiality commitments provided for in the protocol, the regulatory agencies involved receive partial data regarding the investigation carried out by that committee. , which he suggested for the continuation of the study “, reads in the Anvisa statement.

For the time being AstraZeneca, the laboratory responsible, has not issued any comment on the case, so the tests with the Oxford vaccine against covid-19 should continue.

Recall that Portugal should receive a total of 6.9 million vaccines against covid-19 from this laboratory. The batch is part of the European Union’s order for 300 million vaccines from AstraZeneca and will be distributed to the Member States.
