Pedro Nuno Santos: TAP Group dismisses 1,600 workers by the end of the year

The Minister of Infrastructure and Housing, Pedro Nuno Santos, announced this Thursday, in the parliament, that 1,600 workers of the TAP group will leave by the end of the year, having already left 1,200 employees.

The government official, in a hearing at the Economy, Innovation, Public Works and Housing Commission, denied data presented by the Left Block, which pointed out the departure of 1,500 TAP crew members, saying that this would be 80% of the labor force and guaranteeing that the 1,600 workers who will leave are the entire group and not just the airline.

“We cannot artificially maintain a dimension that does not have accession to the market in which we are currently operating,” he explained, stressing that this “implies that in the restructuring process the company is resized”. “We cannot keep a job that afterwards has no work”, he concluded.
