– It has been a roller coaster season so long, but it is a long season. The results have not been as we wanted. We have to stay calm. It’s a long season and we can still deliver.

This is how Manchester City winger Raheem Sterling opens the interview with TV 2 the day before the Sky Blues take on Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium.

In three league games, City have won one game and drawn one in addition to the 2-5 loss to Leicester in the previous home game.

Look now

Due to games in the Champions League this summer, City had their season postponed by one week. Sterling believes the short break, 35 days, is much of the explanation for a variable season opener.

– Yes, there has been a rapid upheaval. It was not a long season run-up, which has made it difficult. But there is nothing we can dwell on or complain about. We have to drive, as we have done, says Sterling.

Impressed with Arteta

Now the England winger, who withdrew from the previous national team gathering with a hamstring injury, is looking forward to the match against The Gunners on Saturday.

– I expect it to be tough, a close match. A match with few goals. An interesting match with a lot of resistance and two teams that will fight hard for the victory, says Sterling.

The one who will lead the opposing team in their battle for the points is Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, who from 2016 to 2019 was Pep Guardiola’s assistant at City. Sterling has been impressed by what his former coach has achieved in his short time in the manager’s chair in North London.

– So far he has done very well. He has turned the club around, you can see it in the atmosphere and energy that is there. He is a manager who knows what he wants and gets the best out of his players.

– A great opportunity

The last time the teams met, in the FA Cup semi-final this summer, Arsenal emerged victorious thanks to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Still, Sterling denies that he enters the fight with a bitter thought of revenge.

– I do not want to say revenge, but, of course, it was disappointing to lose as we did then. I would rather say that it is a new opportunity to get the season back on track. I can not say that we have had the worst start, but that is not the start we want. This is a great opportunity.

For the match against Arsenal, City must, among other things, manage without, among others, Segio Ag├╝ero and Kevin de Bruyne.

Injury for Manchester City – De Bruyne could lose several games

– The players who are injured are important pieces in our team. We have to get out of a mean start without them. It is important that we win the matches without them if we are to win back the title.

For the season goal is clear:

– We as a team want to win back the title, that is the most important thing. It is also my individual goal.
