Netflix is developing a live-action series of Resident Evil, and the project has generated a bit of confusion in the minds of fans, as a reboot of the film franchise is also in production.
Recently, the showrunner in the series, Andrew Dabb, gave an interview to the Shoebiz Cheat Sheet website by phone, clarifying all the differences between both projects, making it clear that there is no connection between them.
Dabb talso said that the series will have a plot that will take place after the 8 main games of the franchise, but that it is not necessarily a canonical continuation of the games.
“Everything is being developed under the same brand, because the same company [Constantin Film] has the rights to the two works. The film is more of a dramatization of the first two games.
The story we’re telling will be kind of a continuation of the game, where the eight games [da série principal, no caso] they’re like our backstory, but we’re going to do new things. ”
The series will have 8 episodes with 1 hour of duration, with script and production of Andrew Dabb (Supernatural) and direction of Bronwen Hughes (The Walking Dead, The Journey Is the Destination) in the first two episodes.
Based on one of the most successful survival horror games of all time, Resident Evil will tell a new story based on two chronologies: in the first, the 14-year-old sisters Jade and Billie Wesker move to New Raccoon City, a mechanical and corporate city that imposes itself on them just in their teens. Over time, Jade and Billie realize that the jungle of stones is more than that and discover that their father may be hiding dark secrets capable of destroying the world.
In the second chronology, more than ten years later, the Earth has less than 15 million inhabitants and more than 6 billion monsters: people and animals infected by the T-virus. Jade, now 30, struggles to survive in this new world while being haunted by secrets from the past that involve her sister and father.
