Santos beat Huachipato (CHI) in Fifa and, at first, they will not need to pay 6 million dollars (R $ 33 million) to the club for having rejected Atlético-MG’s proposal by striker Yeferson Soteldo. Appeals may be filed at the Sports Arbitration Court (CAS).
The Chileans called Peixe into the maximum entity of football based on a clause in the Venezuelan’s contract that would oblige the alvinegro to buy the other 50% of Soteldo’s economic rights for the amount quoted in case of a rejected 12 million dollar proposal.
FIFA also defined that Santos should pay Huachipato 30 thousand dollars. The amount refers to a clause in the Soteldo contract that obliges the Fish to inform each proposal received by the Venezuelan. The club was called again today (15) by the same clause.
Santos’ defense, conducted by the legal department prior to the dismissals and a contracted law firm, was based on two arguments. The first was that the offer was refused by Soteldo himself, who expressed an interest in following Santos. The second was the issue of the influence of third parties, prohibited by Fifa, as experts explained to UOL Esporte at the time.
Even so, the fish still owes about 19 million to Huachipato for hiring the Venezuelan in January last year. The amount would be paid in installments, but Santos never honored the commitment. Because of this debt, the club is blocked by FIFA from registering new players during the next three windows.
