The Carioca women’s volleyball championship officially started this Friday with the confrontation between Sesc-Flamengo and Tijuca. The duel, incidentally, also had a symbolic debut for the sport in general. That’s because for the first time, the multi-champion coach Bernadinho commanded the red-black team. And with the leadership of the coach six times an Olympic medalist, the team easily won by 3 sets to 0, partial 25/11, 25/7 and 25/17.

It is important to note that the duel was also marked by Drussyla’s performance in the position of libero. She acted in place of Natinha, who has a severe knee injury and will have to undergo surgery. In fact, a special and historic game for another athlete. A great promise of national volleyball, the tip Ana Cristina, only 16 years old, made her debut as a professional and right away was the highest scorer of the match, with 16 points.
– It is a beginning of the season where we are adapting to everything yet. I was really looking forward to today’s game, but I think we did well. I am very happy to be here, with the girls, wearing a shirt that my parents wore. I hope that we keep evolving and confident for Monday’s game – said Ana Cristina.

It is also worth noting that the Carioca Championship this year will be held in a very small format, of just four days, starting this Friday and ending next Monday. In addition to Sesc-Flamengo and Tijuca Tennis Club, Fluminense completes the compact list of only three teams in the tournament. Due to the pandemic, all games will be without a crowd in the stands.
The dispute system is very simple and fast. All teams play against each other. Whoever has the best campaign will be champion. In addition to the title, the championship will serve as a warm-up for Sesc-Flamengo and Fluminense before the start of the Superliga.
This was the first tournament after the union of Sesc Rio with Flamengo. With that, there is the curiosity of the team to seek the fourth consecutive title, since Sesc won the cup in the last three years, but also the search to end a fast since 1984, the last time that Flamengo raised the cup of champion.
The team is almost the same as Bernardinho’s team last season. The big news is the exchange at the network outlet: Tandara left and Lorenne arrived. The selectable Amanda, Drussyla, Fabíola, Juciely and Natinha remain in the team.
– We know that the responsibility in Carioca is all ours. We will face teams with younger girls, but who are looking for their space and deserve all our respect. This type of game requires great attention and we will be prepared for that – said the Sesc-Flamengo setter Fabíola.

Fluminense tries to surprise again, as it did in 2016, by taking the title against Bernardinho’s team. With a team much younger than last season, the team bets on the base. The biggest contract was from the captain of the Argentine national team Julieta Lazcano.
– The first time I faced Fluminense, when I played for Curitiba, I thought: “I want to play here. I really liked this club”. It was a feeling. Then I went to Poland, but I was not satisfied there and I wanted to go back to Brazil. Until in May I was contacted by Fluminense and everything went well.
The traditional Tijuca Tennis Club completes the trio of candidates for the title, who will try to surprise the favorites with the kids of their strong base.
