The state of São Paulo registered 11,021 new cases of coronavirus this Saturday (17), totaling 1,062,634 confirmations of the disease since the beginning of the pandemic. In the last 24 hours, 302 new deaths and the total reaches 37,992 deaths.

The new confirmations in 24 hours do not mean that the deaths and cases happened overnight, but that they were counted in the system during this period. The numbers are usually lower on weekends and Mondays.
The number of cases includes positive results in laboratory tests for Covid-19, both of the rapid type, which only checks for the presence of antibodies and points to past infection, and the one that analyzes the presence of the virus in the body at the time of the test – the so-called RT-PCR exam.
The bed occupancy rates in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) were 40.8% in Greater São Paulo and 41.3% in the state this Saturday. The number of inpatients was 7,538, with 4,218 in the ward and 3,320 in intensive care units
The profile of the dead shows that 21,869 were men and 16,123 women. Most deaths are from patients aged 60 or over, totaling 76.3% of deaths.
Mortality is higher in the age group between 70 and 79 years old (9,743), followed by the groups from 60 to 69 years old (8,929) and 80 and 89 years old (7,793).
Among those who have already had confirmation for the new coronavirus are 495,562 men and 560,919 women. There is no sex information for 6,153 cases.
The age group that most concentrates cases is 30 to 39 years old (250,361), followed by the 40 to 49 age group (219,337).
