All editions of Tesla’s bestseller now receive a price reduction, the car manufacturer reports. In addition, the versions with four-wheel drive now get a heat pump, and they get a longer range.
The cheapest version of the car now comes with a real starting price of just over 400,000 kroner.
The Model 3 Standard Range Plus with rear-wheel drive and 409 kilometers range is the cheapest. The price reduction is NOK 31,000.
For the version with four-wheel drive and 75 kilowatt hours of battery, the price has been reduced from NOK 484,900 to NOK 449,900, a reduction of NOK 35,000. The “Performance” edition gets the biggest price reduction, when it goes from NOK 539,900 to NOK 499,900, ie NOK 40,000 down.
But these are not the actual prices, as NOK 11,842 in registration and delivery costs come on top. It is not possible to have the car delivered without paying these costs.
Thus, the real starting price for the three editions is NOK 411,742, NOK 461,742 and NOK 511.742 for SR +, LR AWD and Performance, respectively.
Heat pump provides more range
Updates on Tesla Model 3
Shiny interior parts have become matt black.
Black entrance plates in the doorway.
Roller wheels on the steering wheel in metal.
Magnetically holding the sunshades keeps these in place.
Induction charging for telephones is standard.
Change in storage space.
Two new USB-C ports with higher power.
USB-A connector in the glovebox for Sentry Mode and Dashcam storage devices.
In addition to the price change, the Model 3 LR AWD and Performance will receive a number of other updates.
– Model 3 has received important improvements in quality and efficiency. All Model 3 with four-wheel drive get the same heat pump as in Model Y. Improvements to the driveline and software mean that Model 3 breaks its own record as the world’s most efficient mass-produced electric car, says Even Sandvold Roland, information manager at Tesla Norway.
The new WLTP range for the LR AWD is 20 kilometers up to 580 kilometers, while Performance increases the range by 37 kilometers to 567 kilometers.
On the outside of the car, the chrome details have been replaced with black details, while on the inside there has been an updated center console.
Tesla also comes with new rim variants on the Model 3, with new wheel covers on the so-called “Aero” rims, and a new design on the 19- and 20-inch rims.
Roland says that the updated editions of Model 3 are in production from today.
Gets cheaper than Polestar 2
The price adjustment means that the Model 3 Long Range AWD is slightly cheaper than its nearest competitor Polestar 2, and that the stated range is as much as 110 kilometers longer.
The fact that the Model 3 now has a heat pump means that it is not inconceivable that the practical range gap will be even larger in the winter months.
The cheapest variant of the Model 3 with 430 kilometers range is now closer to other popular electric cars with approximately the same range.
It now costs 45,000 kroner more than the cheapest variant of the Nissan Leaf with a 62 kilowatt-hour battery, but has 45 kilometers more range. Compared to the energy-efficient Kia E-Niro, the Model 3 costs around 27,000 kroner more, but gives a 25 kilometer shorter range.
Hyundai Kona costs just over 10,000 kroner less, and has 54 kilometers more range.
Volkswagen ID.3 1st has about the same range – 420 kilometers – and now costs 60,000 kroner less than Model 3. ID.3 has a heat pump, and like Model 3 SR + also rear-wheel drive.
Even with the price reduction, the Model 3 is still somewhat more expensive than many other cars with a similar range. It should be mentioned that the cheapest variant of Tesla’s car comes without features such as satellite view maps, video streaming services, music streaming and browser. This costs 129 kroner a month if you want to get access to this. These services are included for one year on the more expensive variants of the car.
