Vatican confirms covid-19 case at Pope Francis’ official residence – Brazil

The Vatican announced on Saturday that a resident of Casa Santa Mara, Pope Francis’ official residence, had been diagnosed with the new coronavirus.

According to the Holy See spokesman, Matteo Bruni, the man is asymptomatic and has been placed in isolation, as well as anyone who had contact with him.

Bruni also said that the three cases of covid-19 that had recently been diagnosed among residents and citizens of the Vatican are now recovered.

In addition to the cases confirmed by Bruni, eleven agents of the Swiss Guard who provide security for the Pontiff and the City-State also tested positive for the new coronavirus.

The Vatican government has determined the use of the mask throughout its territory, also outdoors and in Roman territories and buildings under its jurisdiction.

Last Wednesday, 14, Pope Francis did not wear a mask during the general audience with the faithful, and he was only seen with her on one occasion in a car that took him to the Holy See.

However, on Wednesday, for the first time, the pontiff failed to greet the faithful at the beginning and end of the audience, apologized for giving up his proximity and encouraged people to respect health protocols against the coronavirus.

“Forgive me if I greet you from afar, but I think that if all of us, as good citizens, respect the prescriptions of the authorities, it will contribute to ending this pandemic,” said the pope.

Italy, where the virus has killed more than 36,000 people according to the most recent survey by Johns Hopkins University, is facing significant outbreaks of the disease. On Friday, 10,000 new cases were reported within 24 hours. With AFP / EFE
