The telecommunications group in judicial reorganization Oi (OIBR3; OIBR4) had a discount of practically 50% in the debt of R $ 14.3 billion reais owed to the Federal Government and may still split the remaining amount, reported the Federal Attorney General ( AGU) this Friday.

With the agreement, Oi will pay R $ 7.2 billion to Anatel. It is the largest agreement in history formalized by (Federal Attorney General) PGF and Anatel.

The amount owed by Oi came from 198 administrative fines imposed by the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel). For the signing of the agreement, Law No. 13,988 / 2020 was applied, which allows large companies in judicial reorganization, such as Oi, to be able to settle their debts with discounts of up to 50% and installments in up to 84 months.

The discount was granted at a time when the federal government is facing a fiscal crisis exacerbated by the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic in the country and two days after the Senate passed legislation amending the bankruptcy law.

“Anatel’s credits are considered unrecoverable, due to the Oi group’s judicial reorganization process,” said the AGU in a press release.

The agreement puts an end to legal disputes between OI and Anatel, with the extinction of 1117 actions for tax foreclosures, 199 actions for annulment, 82 precautionary actions and 300 embargoes to the execution will be extinguished, totaling a universe of approximately 1700 lawsuits.

It is worth mentioning that, the day before, Oi, which has been in judicial recovery since 2016, raised R $ 1.4 billion from the sale of telephone tower units and data processing centers.

According to information from AGU, R $ 1.8 billion in judicial deposits from Oi will be converted into income for Anatel, but will be divided into 32 installments of R $ 56.2 million.
