The Rio de Janeiro Department of Education has decided to suspend face-to-face classes in 12 municipalities that have retreated to the red and orange phases of the flexibility plan. The indicators point to the chance of contagion by the new coronavirus.

In the high risk classification are the Niterói, São Gonçalo and Itaboraí, which from Monday (11/30) will no longer be able to receive students for face-to-face classes.

In the capital and municipalities of Angra dos Reis, Duque de Caxias, Magé, Mesquita, Nilópolis, Nova Iguaçu, Porto Real and Seropédica, pedagogical activities are suspended in state schools. All municipalities are on the orange flag.

According to the Secretariat, teaching should be done remotely. Even without the face-to-face classes, all state schools will be open, at adapted times, so that students can remove the didactic material and the food kit.

Only four municipalities will be able to continue with classroom teaching. They are: Casimiro de Abreu, Engineer Paulo de Frontin, Natividade and Sumidouro. The activities take place for students in the 3rd grade of High School and EJA (Youth and Adult Education), who choose to return.

In all, 14 school units will remain open for face-to-face classes, according to the Secretariat.

As of Wednesday (25), 22,256 deaths from coronavirus had been recorded in Rio de Janeiro. The daily average of deaths by covid is 80, an increase of 132% in 14 days, according to figures obtained by a consortium of press vehicles. The index is accelerating in Rio.
