Watch video of Bas’ goal at the top. Summary coming!
Istanbul Basaksehir – Manchester United 2-1
– It drives the fans crazy
Manchester United’s roller coaster season continues, and the away match in the Champions League against Istanbul Basaksehir became an eventful affair and ended with another bang for the red devils.
First, the 35-year-old Demba Ba let score his easiest goal in over six years when he got a whole half of the field to frolic on, before they then ended up under 0-2 after a passing error in their own half.
Scoring by Anthony Martial just before the break meant that Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s team had a whole round to chase points, but the score never came. Loss in Istanbul was far from what the Norwegian manager needed to get respite after a tough start to the season.
Nightmare start for United – Demba Ba delivered «Anfield copy»
Solskjær made six changes to the team that disappointingly lost 0-1 on their own turf for Arsenal in the Premier League this weekend, including in the goalkeeper position where Dean Henderson made his Champions League debut.
He also had to find himself picking his first ball out of the net, after what in many ways can be characterized as an incredible and incomprehensible setback after about 13 minutes.
United even had a corner kick, had moved up the whole team, and were completely unaware that Demba Ba was lying and wondering as the hosts’ leading man.
Slaughtering the United players: – Ole will lose his job
The Senegalese was over ten meters ahead of Nemanja Matic – who despite his tempo problems was United’s back man 75 meters (!) From his own goal – but the striker was well inside his own half and therefore out of offside danger.
When a clearance was sent straight to the back room, Ba was given free rein in United’s half of the field, a necked Matic never caught him again, and alone with Henderson, the striker was as cold as when he in some similar circumstances put the knife in the Liverpool fans’ title dream as Chelsea striker in the Premier League sprint in 2014.
– It’s some of the strangest I’ve seen. I almost never think I have seen a situation where the nearest defender is 70 meters away from goal. I get a little flashback to when Gerrard slipped at Anfield and Demba Ba came alone with the goalkeeper, said Viasat expert commentator Lars Tjærnås after the goal was a fact.
TV 2 expert: – It’s shocking
– It’s shocking. It is not possible to act in that way. We can criticize Solskjær for the battle plan and the one and the other, but right here the players on the field must take responsibility, says Jesper Mathisen when the situation is reviewed in TV 2’s studio.
– They have to talk to each other. That which is absolutely incredible. It is very rare to see at all levels. At the position 0-0, twelve minutes played, is allowed to have a whole half of the field to himself. It is a completely cruel defensive game, says Simen Stamsø-Møller.
– X-files, shocking scoring
The irony is striking, all the time “He slipped on his f ***** ass, he gave it to Demba Ba” is a song that has been well taken care of even among the red devil supporters for the past six years.
– Horror show, Halloween football, X-files. Shocking scoring, said Morten Langli in Viasat’s studio.
The popular Twitter user and Manchester United supporter Marius Sæther Flå was among those who made humor at the favorite club’s expense after the insane setback.
– Can anyone send a video of United’s defensive game to Donald Trum and he will see what the counting error really is? wrote the wordsmith.

Ba caused trouble again – Tuanzebe trapped him on his way through
Just over five minutes after the lead goal, Ba was on his way into the back room again, and Axel Tuanzebe tore down the Senegalese. In that situation, Solskjær’s team was possibly lucky to get away with a yellow card.
The Norwegian also took no chances with the midfielder, who was so good in the opening match in the Champions League against PSG two weeks ago, and replaced him in favor of Scott McTominay already at the break.
Especially along the hosts’ left side, dangers were created, and when a little over half an hour had passed, Danijel Aleksic doubled the lead.
Edin Visca, who had been given a “free” goal-scoring goal of 1-0, broke free and struck from the left, but the Serb’s heading ended right on Henderson.
Double the lead after a new United carelessness – then Martial struck back
Five minutes before the break, the doubles of the hosts’ lead came, and again Ba and Visca were on their way.
Donny van de Beek tried to get a goal back for Bruno Fernandes but despite all his hard work down the right, he just couldn’t complete the move. The Portuguese tried to save it by playing back to Juan Mata on the first touch, but put the Spaniard in trouble. Thus, the hosts could break by Deniz Türüc.
Solskjær responds to the Keane slaughter: – Roy has always been outspoken
He accelerated down the left side and struck hard in the field where Ba had eyes in the neck and made a nice jump. Behind him came Visca, who knocked 2-0 in the net with a cannonball in the middle of the goal.
Two minutes later came the important reduction for United, when Luke Shaw proved that he also has offensive skills. The post from the left was perfect and hit Anthony Martial’s head, and in a nice way the Frenchman stabbed 1-2 in the net. The goal-scoring pass was Shaw’s first since January.
Pogba and Cavani got the last half hour
The scoring created renewed hope for an away team that had gotten two real nose-thieves, and after the break it was Solskjær’s team that took the lead. Bruno Fernandes tested the hosts’ goalkeeper with a free kick around two minutes into the round, but the big chances were missed in the first half of the round.
The McTominay grip during the break was the first card Solskjær played, and when half an hour remained, a double change also came. Paul Pogba and Édinson Cavani came on for van de Beek and Mata to reinforce an away team that at this point in the match ran the game completely against a Basaksehir team that was low and defended in 4-5-1.
The quarter before the end came another double substitution, when Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Mason Greenwood replaced Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Marcus Rashford.
Gulbrandsen into the end – United close equalization in overtime
Three minutes later, a Norwegian element also came on the field, when Fredrik Gulbrandsen replaced one of the settlement’s big players Ba at the top for the home team.
The fast train immediately accelerated his team, tipped away Nemanja Matic and got his team a corner kick as the first thing he did in the match.
However, there was no scoring, nor was it for the guests who chased the equalizer. They were almost in overtime, when the goal line technology had to press to conclude that no own goal was scored before stopper Alexandru Epureanu saved on the line.
Thus, the Turks took their first three points in the group, while Manchester United remains at six points after the solid victories over PSG and RB Leipzig in the last two weeks.
