Monolith found in US desert is artist’s work, says agent

a metallic object found last week in a canyon in the Utah desert (USA) caused a mystery that spread through social networks: how the monolith had stopped there?

Many compared the metal object to the iconic monolith described in the books by Arthur C. Clarke and seen in the science fiction classic “2001: A Space Odyssey” by filmmaker Stanley Kubrick.

David Zwirner, agent for John McCracken, an American minimalist artist who died in 2011 and whose posthumous career is managed by him, said that “it’s definitely a McCracken work”. He posted on Twitter a photo of a similar sculpture by McCracken, which is on display in a New York gallery.

When he died, McCracken lived in New Mexico, a neighboring state of Utah.

“Who knew 2020 would have another surprise for us? Just when we thought we had seen it all”, said Zwirner, according to the “Daily Star”.

A mystery still remains: how did the monolith get there? The structure was about 3.6 meters high and was embedded in the ground – there is still no indication of who took her there.

“It was one of the strangest things I’ve come across in all these years as a driver”, told local network KSLTV Bret Hutchings, a helicopter pilot who spotted the monolith while accompanying a flock of sheep.
