Brazilian registries can now authenticate documents electronically. The new service will make it possible to certify copies online through the website.
The novelty comes to complement the digitalization of other services that were already being provided on the platform of electronic notorious acts called e-Notoriado. Among them, digital signatures of deeds, powers of attorney by videoconference, notary minutes and wills, as well as extrajudicial separations and divorces.
According to the Colégio Notarial do Brasil (CNB), the body responsible for managing the module of the Central Digital Notary for Authentication (Cenad), the new resource allows “the materialization and dematerialization” of authentications in different notary offices. In this way, it makes it faster to send the certified document to people or agencies, in addition to securely verifying the authenticity of the digital file.
Cenad was the only valid national means for digital document authentication. For that, it will be necessary to present an original physical document, with a notary’s office, so that it can be scanned and then sent for authentication.
According to the CNB president, Giselle Oliveira de Barros, the new procedure allows the user to work with the electronic document, but with legal certainty.
“After the document has been authenticated by Cenad, it can be sent electronically (email, whatsapp or any other tool) to public agencies or individuals and companies for business deals, having the same value as the original document, physical or digital, presented by the citizen ”, he informed.
How to access the service
To access this service, “the user must request digital authentication from a preferred notary and send the document by e-mail, if the original is digital. If the document to be authenticated is physical, it is necessary to take the form to the notary for scanning and authentication.
Upon receiving the document through the platform, which follows the territoriality rules for the distribution of services, the notary public verifies the authenticity and integrity of the document ”, informs the CNB.
Notary authentication generates a record on the platform, with data from the notary or person who signed it, the date and time of signature, and verification code. “The user will receive a PDF file digitally signed by the notary. The file can be sent by e-mail, WhatsApp or other electronic means ”, he concludes.
