Rio Grande do Norte reached 66.17% of the coverage of the Polio vaccination campaign until this Wednesday (25). The goal of the State Health Secretariat (Sesap) is that 95% of children are vaccinated against the disease by the next 30th. The RN appears in the 11th position in the ranking of Brazil and in the 6th position in the Northeast region in relation to vaccination coverage. The data are from the Information System of the National Immunization Program (SI-PNI / DATASUS).

To date, 38 potiguares municipalities (22.75%) have reached the target; 120 municipalities (71.85%) are between 50 and 95% coverage; and 9 municipalities (5.38%) are still below 50%.

During the Polio vaccination campaign, children aged 12 months to less than 5 years of age should be vaccinated. Polio is a disease that affects the central nervous system and can cause permanent or transient paralysis of the lower limbs. The only form of prevention is vaccination.

Parents and family members must also take children and adolescents under 15 years of age to vaccination posts to participate in the Multivaccination Campaign and update the vaccination booklet. All vaccines in the basic vaccination schedule for children and adolescents are being offered in order to reduce the risk of transmission of preventable diseases, as well as to reduce the rates of abandonment of the vaccination scheme.
