SC has a new record of cases for Covid-19, with 9.1 thousand in 24 hours

Number of recovered people continues to retract, currently standing at 90%; 15 hospitals have no ICU beds available

Information from the State Government indicates that this Saturday (28) had the highest increase in cases of Covid-19, with 9,523 in a single epidemiological bulletin.

According to information from the advisory office of the State Department of Health, the critical number is not related to dammed tests or technical problems, being a demonstration of the progress of the pandemic.

The increase is practically 50% higher than the previous record, from the penultimate Friday (20), when 6,100 cases were confirmed.

The state now has 355 thousand cases of the new coronavirus, of which about 90% are recovered, and 30 thousand patients have the virus active, the highest number so far.

In addition, there are 3,700 deaths, 35 of which were included in this update.

As a result, the scenario in Santa Catarina, which was no longer favorable, shows yet another number that should influence the measures of state and municipal administrations.

At the moment, most specialists consider the discharge a phenomenon that results from breaks in social isolation, especially those seen on holidays, and events, considering the existence of clandestine parties.

In the last week, the State broke the record of confirmed cases three times, and during the last Wednesday (25), the map of potential risk was updated.

Now, 13 of the 16 regions are at very serious potential risk, the most critical of the scale, with only three previously.

The focus of the disease remains in the capital, which adds up to 31,545 cases of Covid-19, being considered the new epicenter of the virus by some experts.

Then, in confirmed cases:

  • Joinville: 29,979
  • Blumenau: 19,915
  • San Jose: 17,502
  • Cricklewood: 12,233
  • Field: 11,789
  • Balneario Camboriu: 11,620
  • Itajaí: 11,318

Higher number of overcrowded hospitals

Since the State began confirming more than 2,000 cases per day in epidemiological bulletins, representing a new wave of the pandemic in the State, the occupancy rate of ICUs (Intensive Care Units) has gone up.

Currently, 87% of beds are full, the highest rate so far. In other words, the State has 1,438 active beds, but 1,253 are occupied, 575 of which are patients from Covid-19

Currently, this leaves 185 beds free throughout the territory of Santa Catarina. But, even with almost 200 beds available, the State has 15 hospitals that are fully booked, with no ICU beds available.

Fully booked units:

  • Bethesda Hospital in Joinville
  • Bom Jesus Hospital, in Ituporanga
  • Bom Jesus dos Passos Charity Hospital in Laguna
  • Tereza Ramos Hospital and Maternity Hospital, in Lages
  • Governador Celso Ramos Hospital, Florianópolis
  • Hélio Anjos Ortiz Hospital, in Curitibanos
  • Hospital Nossa Senhora da Immaculada Conceição, in Nova Trento
  • Helmuth Nass Regional Hospital, in Biguaçu
  • Regional Hospital São Paulo, in Xanxerê
  • Santa Cruz Hospital, in Canoinhas
  • Hospital Santa Teresinha, in Braço do Norte
  • São Braz Hospital, in Porto União
  • São José Hospital, in Jaraguá do Sul
  • Waldomiro Colautti Hospital, in Ibirama
  • Darcy Vargas Maternity Hospital, in Joinville

Three of the units do not have Covid-19 patients, and another three have all of their beds occupied by virus patients.

In regional terms, the South, and the Serra and Midwest of Santa Catarina add the most critical indices, both with 89% of global occupation.

In the state mapping, which points out 13 of the 16 regions of Santa Catarina as in the most serious state, there are nine that are capable of attention close to the limit.

The variable measures the region’s capacity to serve patients, and Foz do Rio Itajaí and the Far West of Santa Catarina are the only regions with reduced risk.

Above average social isolation

Reflecting data collected on Friday (17), 36.6% of Santa Catarina residents were at home, an index that is above the national average, which is 35.4%.

The data are from the In Loco platform, which maps 1.5 million catarinenses via smartphone.

In the ranking of states, Santa Catarina occupies the 11th position, and the leaders are the states of Acre (41%), Amazonas (40%) and Ceará (38%).

It is worth mentioning that the isolation breaks were the main reason cited by health experts when asked about the highs of this and last week, which occurred a few days after holidays with crowded beaches.
