GP Sakhir F2: Two penalties attributed to Nikita Mazepin

Nikita Mazepin was given two five-second penalties, which cost him the podium in the first race of Formula 2 at the Sakhir Grand Prix. The Russian driver of the Hitech Grand Prix thus falls to ninth position.

The first penalty came when the Russian forced Yuki Tsunoda (Carlin) to go off the track, out of the pitlane, during the battle for leadership. Although Tsunoda passed Mazepin off the track, the Japanese will not be penalized because the stewards determined that the maneuver would be completed even if he was not forced to go off the track.

Mazepin’s second penalty was attributed to him because he prevented Felipe Drugovich (MP Motorsport) from overtaking on the finish line, with the Brazilian having to ‘raise his foot’ to avoid a collision.

Thus, Mazepin falls to the ninth final position, with Drugovich rising to the lowest position on the podium. Robert Shwartzman (Prema Racing), Callum Ilott (Uni-Virtuosi Racing), Mick Schumacher (Prema Racing), Jehan Daruvala (Carlin) and Dan Ticktum (DAMS) win a position with Mazepin’s penalty. For Ticktum, this place guarantees you the pole position for tomorrow’s race.
