Senegal is again in shock, after the death of a student at a Quranic school, the victim of a “correction” administered by a much older colleague.
In the country, there are thousands of Quranic schools, where many children are victims of abuse according to NGOs.
Fallou Diop, 10, died on Sunday night. He had been “subjected to a correction” inflicted by a young man charged with watching over students in the absence of the Qur’anic teacher. According to police sources, he was being punished for not having learned the lessons of the day.
On Thursday night, the “monitor”, aged between 15 and 20, according to the local press, and the director of the Koranic school in the village of Raoudou Rayahin were accused of “murder”, of “putting them at risk other people’s lives ”and“ not providing assistance to a person in danger ”.
