Luís Filipe Vieira met yesterday with the president of the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF), Fernando Gomes, in Cidade do Futebol, in Oeiras. On the agenda were several issues related to the discipline, but the polemics of the moment did not, of course, pass by.
As BOLA learned, the president of Benfica will have taken the opportunity to reiterate what he had already said on Monday, the eve of the second leg of the Portuguese Cup semi-finals against Famalicão, regarding the need to be foreign referees summoned for Benfica and FC Porto games. «It is not because we do not believe in A, B or C. The suspicion must end. If foreign referees come, they can make mistakes, they are not connected with Benfica or FC Porto, they count zero ”, said Vieira then.
On this Monday, remember, the eagle leader also complained about the lack of action by the Government and sports bodies on security issues – “the presidents of the Federation and the League are not imposing themselves. And the Government, until today, has resigned from football », he said – so Luís Filipe Vieira will also have insisted with Gomes to put the topic at the top of the priorities in the relationship with the State bodies.
It is not uncommon for the FPF leader to receive managers from several clubs (including the big ones) in a logic of permanent dialogue with the main sports agents. The reception for Luís Filipe Vieira was not, therefore, of an extraordinary character, but it gains relevance due to the tense moment that is lived once again in the highest spheres of Portuguese football. It is natural, therefore, that these meetings will be repeated in the future.
