Wheat is the main winter crop in Rio Grande do Sul, with an estimated planted area of more than 735 thousand hectares. During Expoagro Cotricampo, which takes place in Campo Novo (RS), producers were able to discover the latest in biotechnology that promise to reduce the occurrence of pests and diseases in crops.
From seed to flour, technology is present. The final quality of the product starts back there, as in the case of a cultivar that is more resistant to the herbicide that combats ryegrass and oats in the wheat field. Biotechnology can even be planted in soil condemned by weeds.
“There are producers who are already limited to planting wheat in some areas due to ryegrass and oat infestation. So, this technology will allow him to grow wheat again, which is a culture that brings added value in terms of cultivation, unlike other winter crops they have no added value and only serves to cover the soil and everything, since the wheat has this financial appeal ”, said Biotrigo’s commercial technician, Jeferson Rocha.
To dry out the soil, a new product promises to act faster, advancing planting by 5 days, with 35% less product. “It is a new principle. They are salts that work together with this product, isopropylamine and potassium salt, and that will make desiccation much more efficient and, above all, be quick, because the time for us today is fundamental ”, highlighted Celso Mena Barreto , representative of Ourofino, recalling another important stage in wheat culture.
Sowing the crop
When planting a 23-row fine grain seeder, it facilitates use in irregular areas and planting in moist soil, as explained by Lucian Novaczyk, from Mengo / NK. “With this moist soil, you can plant before and do a good planting because of the technology that allows it. And the angle of the double disk of the attack on the ground is more closed, so it causes three days before in soil with humidity ”, he said.
With so much innovation and investment in technology, the Brazilian wheat culture is no longer seen as of poor quality as it used to be. Rio Grande do Sul, which is the second largest wheat producer and is expected to harvest around 1.980 million tons in 2020.
“The quality of our product is excellent and is not new. The cooperative works with breeders that bring quality to the grain. We know that Argentine wheat has quality, but we do not need it in our mix of Argentine wheat, because we have a bleaching wheat too, a improving wheat where we can add value to the flour to be able to distribute it to our customers ” , said the president of Cotricampo, Gerson Bridi.
