Sport defined its new coach for the sequence of the 2020 season. The Pernambuco club confirmed the return of Daniel Paulista, who had been leading Confiança, in the Sergipano Championship and in the Northeast Cup.
Former Sport player, Daniel Paulista started his coaching career at the Pernambuco club, after a quick stint as an assistant. However, he ended up leaving the club to pursue a career at Boa. He was at Confiança since last year, when he gained access to Serie B of the Brazilian Championship.
To remove Daniel Paulista from Confiança, Sport will have to pay the severance fine. The coach’s farewell will take place this Saturday, when the Sergipe club will face River-PI, at 8 pm, at Batistão stadium, for the fourth round of the Northeast Cup.
The coach will arrive to assume the role that had been Guto Ferreira. The coach left the team with a sequence of bad results, being the main defeat for Brusque-SC, by 2 to 1, which culminated in the elimination in the first phase of the Copa do Brasil.
In addition to Daniel Paulista, the name of Jair Ventura came to be aired on Ilha do Retiro, but the option was for someone who knew the backstage of the club.
Sport will have a big challenge this Saturday, still without Daniel Paulista. The club faces the arch-rival Náutico, at 18h, in Aflitos, also for the Copa do Nordeste.
