After the resignation of coach Alberto Valentim, the Botafogo board has a period without matches to define the new coach and “start the season again”. Eliminated early in the Guanabara Cup, the first round of the Carioca Championship, the Alvinegra team only debuted in the Rio Cup in early March and are still waiting for the definition of the clashes in the second phase of the Copa do Brasil.

The club is going through a transition period – it seeks to transform football into S / A – and the summit still traces a desired profile for the coach. The idea, however, is to seek to take advantage of these days free of commitments to get it right with the new commander and so that he can adapt to the squad.

In audio leaked in October last year, Calos Augusto Montenegro, former president and one of the members of the transition group, had already demonstrated that he would not like Valentine to start 2020 ahead of the team. After some trimmed edges, the coach remained at the club, but, under pressure, he could not resist the defeat to Fluminense, in yesterday’s classic (9).

Regarding the squad, initially, there should be no more arrivals, despite the idea of having another center forward to fight for a spot with Pedro Raul. With the Japanese midfielder Honda, there were 13 names at the beginning of 2020, with reinforcements for practically all sectors.

Jair Ventura ‘likes’ back

On a page on Instagram, Jair Ventura, a coach who is currently without a club and has spent time at Botafogo, liked a comment in which a fan asked him to return to General Severiano.

Alberto Valentim had already imagined how he would go about carrying out the daily work with the Japanese midfielder Honda, recently announced as a black-and-white reinforcement. The former coach of General Severiano’s team had chosen the Italian for communication.

In his playing days, Valentim played for almost a decade in Italian football – defended Udinese and Siena -, while Honda played, between 2014 and 2017, for Milan.

“I do not speak English. I will talk in Italian. He played for four years at Milan, so this communication will be easy ”, he said, in an interview with“ SporTV Selection ”, last Friday.
