Pessimism returned to prevail among investors despite the improvement in economic data in China and the United States. European stock exchanges are down and New York futures are down.

And in addition to the new coronavirus, Chinese scientists have identified a subtype of influenza virus in pigs that has the potential to generate a new pandemic. The new pathogen is a predominant strain of the influenza virus and derived from H1N1, a group of viruses from which another subtype caused the 2009 flu pandemic, which killed about 250,000 people worldwide.

Still in China, the recovery of the manufacturing sector continued in June and points to expansion, but approval of a national security law for Hong Kong generates friction with the United States.

Regarding results, IRB Brasil reported that it closed the first quarter with a net profit of R $ 13.874 million, a decrease of 92% in relation to the first three months of 2019. 1. Worldwide exchanges

Pessimism returned to prevail among investors despite the improvement in economic data in China and the United States. European stock exchanges are down and New York futures are down.

The reason for pessimism is the advancement of new cases of the new coronavirus. On Monday, the World Health Organization (WHO) warned that the worst of the pandemic is yet to come and some regions are beginning to reassess opening plans.

In this scenario, the FTSE 100, in London, decreased 0.45%.

“I think that, as we are reaching the end of the quarter, there was a rebalancing. So any weakness (of the actions) will be short term. I think July will be a strong month for stocks, ”Tom Lee, head of research at Fundstrat Global Advisors, told Bloomberg.

What contributes to the view that the pressure is short-term is the improvement of some economic data. China showed a stronger than expected purchasing and procurement manager index (PMI) in the early hours. The property sales figures in the United States, released on Monday, were also better than expected.

On the other hand, the news about the passage of a national security law for Hong Kong generates friction with the USA.

However, Dow Jones futures operate with a slight negative change of 0.14% and S&P 500 futures fall 0.07%.

And the tension between India and China goes up. The Indian government has signaled that it may ban Huawei from participating in the 5G distribution process. India has previously blocked 59 Chinese applications, such as TikTok and WeChat, citing a threat to national security.

In the Asian market, the Nikkei 225, in Tokyo, closed at an increase of 1.33% and the Hang Seng Index, in Hong Kong, appreciated by 0.78%. The Sanghai SE index showed a positive change of 0.52%.

In China, at 10:45 pm, industrial PMI data will be released.

3. Risk of a new pandemic?

Chinese scientists have identified a subtype of influenza virus in pigs that has the potential to generate a new pandemic. The new pathogen is a prevalent strain of the influenza virus on pig farms in China since 2016, in 10 different regions, and containing it requires “urgent” measures, say the researchers.

This virus would be a derivative of H1N1, a group of viruses from which another subtype caused the 2009 flu pandemic, which killed about 250,000 people worldwide.

4. Political tension

The group known as “centão” wants to guarantee more resources for the city halls in exchange for supporting the postponement of the elections and they bet that President Jair Bolsonaro will support the negotiation, reported the newspaper Folha de S.Paulo.

But that is not the president’s only political concern. According to the newspaper, Operation Anjo, launched on June 18, took some steps to elucidate the ties between Fabrício Queiroz and the Bolsonaro family with the militias in Rio de Janeiro.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office revealed a suspicious meeting between Senator Flavio Bolsonaro’s lawyer, Luis Gustavo Botto, and family members of former Bope captain Adriano Magalhães da Nóbrega, appointed as the head of a militia.

Also participating in this meeting was Queiroz’s wife, Márcia Aguiar, who remains on the run. The goal would be to develop an escape plan for the family of the former aide to Flavio Bolsonaro with the help of Adriano.

Still in the spotlight, Bolsonaro is expected to announce today the extension of emergency aid in an afternoon event. Last week, the president spoke in 3 installments with decreasing amounts of R $ 500, R $ 400 and R $ 300, while Câmara signaled that he prefers the extension of emergency aid for two months in installments of R $ 600. According to Globo, he must opt for two installments of R $ 600 of emergency aid.

5. Corporate overview

The Ministry of Agriculture reported that China has suspended imports from three meat processing units from Brazil. The move was allegedly motivated by the Chinese government’s concerns about containing a new outbreak of the new coronavirus.

According to the Reuters agency, a unit operated by Marfrig in the city of Várzea Grande (MT) is one of those suspended. In addition, according to information on the Mapa website, a JBS chicken unit in Passo Fundo (RS) was suspended by China last Friday and another by Minuano in Lajeado is also temporarily prevented from exporting to the Chinese.

The companies did not comment on the matter.
