SAO PAULO – The United States registered 1.542 million new applications for unemployment benefits in the week ended June 6, the country’s Labor Department said on Thursday (11).
The numbers represent a drop from the previous week’s mark (1.877 million) and are slightly below the estimates of economists (1.6 million new orders) consulted by Dow Jones.
The explosion in benefit requests began after the country began adopting social isolation measures to stem the spread of the new coronavirus pandemic.
There are almost 113,000 deaths caused by Covid-19 in the United States, more than any other country in the world. The number of confirmed cases reached 2 million.
