USA records over 1,000 deaths from COVID-19 in 24 hours – 06/30/2020

Washington, 1 Jul 2020 (AFP) – The United States has reported 1,199 deaths from COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, according to a Tuesday count from Johns Hopkins University.

The daily number of deceased has not surpassed the 1,000 mark since June 10.

With a total of 127,322 deaths from coronavirus, the United States remains the country with the greatest loss of life due to the pandemic.

Also according to the Baltimore institution, 42,528 new cases of the disease were registered in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of infected people in the largest economy in the world to 2,629,372.

Due to the increase in infections and deaths, particularly in the south and west of the country, some states interrupted their processes, easing the containment measures and reactivating the economy.

This Tuesday, Texas surpassed its daily record of infections reporting 6,975 new cases of the disease.

Since the start of the pandemic, southern state officials have reported 159,986 cases and 2,424 deaths.

In California, more than 1,000 inmates in the state’s oldest prison, San Quentin, tested positive for COVID-19, according to local authorities.

“Clearly, we currently have no full control (of the pandemic),” said Dr. Anthony Fauci, an expert who is the White House’s chief scientific advisor during this health emergency.
