French illustrator Albert Uderzo died at 92, his family announced on Tuesday. With his death, and after the death of René Goscinny in 1977, neither of the two authors of the French comic strip remains, who over six decades have fallen in love with successive generations with the adventures of Asterix and his village of irreducible Gauls. The duo will forever be associated with this character created in 1959: “an independent spirit”, as described by Uderzo to the Le Parisien in 2018, which would become transversal, transgenerational and planetary.
