Even without the proven effectiveness for treating new coronavirus, the president Jair Bolsonaro took a box of hydroxychloroquine for the meeting of G-20 which took place this Thursday (March 26), by videoconference, to talk about the pandemic. In images released by the Planalto Palace, Bolsonaro appears holding a box of Reuquinol. He was with Chancellor Ernesto Arajo.
On Wednesday, through social media, Bolsonaro again said that treatment with drugs such as hydroxychloroquine has shown effectiveness and can bring peace to the population. The first clinical study in the country to test the use of the drug to treat coronavirus infection, however, will only have its results released in two or three months. The study involved 1,300 patients and 70 hospitals.
On social media, Health Minister Luiz Henrique Mandetta highlighted the announcement that the portfolio will distribute 3.4 million units of the chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine drugs for use in seriously hospitalized patients. Mandetta considered that self-medication should not occur “under any circumstances”. In some countries, such as the United States and Nigeria, cases have been reported of people who became intoxicated after self-medicating with the drug.
In a note, at the beginning of the week, Anvisa informed that any prescription of a chloroquine or hydroxychloroquine-based medication needs to be done in a special two-way prescription. The new rule included these drugs in the list of controlled substances. The delivery or sale of the medicine in pharmacies and drugstores can only be made to people with a special prescription, so that one route is retained in the pharmacy and another with the patient.
