Cirque du Soleil may declare bankruptcy for debts and cancellation of shows

Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group, the company that manages Cirque du Soleil, is considering bankruptcy after it was forced to cancel shows because of the coronavirus outbreak.

According to Reuters, the Montreal-born circus company had to temporarily fire most of its employees amid the crisis.

The layoffs would have affected at least 4,600 employees, about 95% of the company’s workforce.

Cirque du Soleil today would have a debt of US $ 900 million (about R $ 4.5 billion), an internal source told Reuters, but creditors would be willing to negotiate this amount with the company.
