Gas stations in Teresina stopped working during the night. The measure, which began to take effect since Monday (23), displeases businessmen in the sector, who claim to have financial loss.
The National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP) regulated the opening hours of gas stations across the country for, at least, from Monday to Saturday, from 7 am to 7 pm.
However, a municipal decree to combat the pandemic of the new coronavirus prohibited the gas stations in Teresina to operate between 7 pm and 7 am. The closing order causes damage to the owners of the establishments. The president of the Piauí Gas Station Dealers Union, Alexandre Valença, Cidadeverde.com and said that the category is not having financial return.
“Teresina’s city hall prohibited the opening of the posts from 7 pm until 7 am. The movement of the post has fallen so much that financially there is no sense for any post to open. It is more a matter of civility for the posts to open than to have some financial result. It is more for the sake of not running out of essential services like trucks, ambulances, police. There is no financial return, ”he declared.
Alexandre argues that the prohibition on the operation of gas stations at dawn is “harmful” and not a solution. He says truck drivers are being hurt by the bans.

“Truck drivers who pass through Teresina are being forced to stay here overnight, which causes crowds in the post yards. I believe that it should not be banned ”, he criticizes.
The municipal decree also closed convenience stores at gas stations in the capital. The measure also criticized by the category, which argues that it was enough to prevent domestic consumption. Alexander Valença admits that the ban is “hurting in my pocket”.
“It is a wrong move to close convenience stores. They are true mini markets. It must be classified in the category of mini market or supermarket and prohibiting internal consumption in stores. The sector wants the mayor to release the opening hours ”, asks the union.
Decree wants to avoid contamination
In the announcement of the decree, Mayor Firmino Filho said that the city needs to stop to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
“We are going to stop the city. Reach your minimum. It is a challenge and not just any challenge. Where this virus passed, it left a death trail. We have to stay at home. Our city has never experienced anything like it. We have to do what is essential very calmly. We cannot let fear dominate us and panic, ”said Firmino in a video published on social media.
According to a bulletin from the State Health Secretariat, Teresina has 8 confirmed cases of COVID-19.
