247 – This Friday (29), Argentina began collecting extraordinary tax on large fortunes. The legislation was passed in mid-December last year and establishes payment through a single and progressive contribution from people with assets above 200 million pesos [cerca de R$ 11 milhões].

The proceeds from the tax will be applied to tackle the Covid-19 pandemic, in addition to integrating spending on the payment of emergency social assistance and combating poverty, among other programs.

The expectation is that the tax will reach 12 thousand taxpayers through a progressive rate of up to 3.5% on the goods declared in Argentina and up to 5.25% on those outside the country. Currently, 40.9% of the population of 44 million people live below the poverty line. It is estimated that taxation will generate revenue of US $ 3 billion [cerca de R$ 16 bilhões].
