This Saturday (30), Brazil had, for the second consecutive day, the highest moving average of deaths by covid-19 in six months. In the past seven days, there have been 1,071 deaths, on average, caused by the disease across the country, according to the consortium of media outlets of which UOL is a part.
It is the highest mark since July 26, when the average was 1,074 deaths. Today is the tenth consecutive day in which the country has a moving average of deaths per covid-19 above one thousand. The last time there was such a long streak was between July 3 and August 2 (31 days). In this period, the record of 1,097 deaths on average, recorded on July 25, was computed.
For the fifth consecutive day, Brazil recorded more than a thousand new deaths caused by covid-19. According to the consortium figures, 1.196 new deaths from yesterday to today, bringing the total number of deaths to 223,971 since the beginning of the pandemic. Ceará did not report today the update on the number of new cases and deaths.
In the last 24 hours, Brazil presented 55,717 positive tests for covid-19, increasing to 9.175.194 the total number of infected since the beginning of the pandemic.
Brazil today surpassed the mark of 2 million vaccinated against covid-19. In total, 2,002,455 people have already been immunized, according to data from the health departments of 25 states and the Federal District. However, only 12 states reported updates to this data on Saturday (30).
Experts indicate calculation of moving average
To measure the situation of deaths due to covid-19, experts indicate using the moving average of deaths, which calculates the average of records observed in the last seven days. The operation is the most suitable to observe the trend of the statistics, as it balances the abrupt variations of the numbers throughout the week.
The consortium of press outlets adopted this period to verify fluctuations in the moving average. It is possible to speak of a drop in numbers when the decrease is greater than 15% if verified in the last 14 days – in this case, the period of the last two weeks. If the numbers increase more than 15%, the epidemic accelerates. Intermediate values indicate stability.
See the situation by state and in the Federal District:
- Espírito Santo: stable (-2%)
- Minas Gerais: stable (5%)
- Rio de Janeiro: stable (-6%)
- São Paulo: stable (-4%)
- Amazonas: acceleration (97%)
- Amapá: acceleration (26%)
- Pará: acceleration (41%)
- Rondônia: acceleration (40%)
- Roraima: acceleration (94%)
- Ceará: acceleration (109%)
- Pernambuco: stable (-14%)
- Rio Grande do Norte: decrease (-40%)
- Federal District: acceleration (18%)
- Goiás: acceleration (53%)

Bolsonaro says he will buy Russian vaccine if Anvisa approves
President Jair Bolsonaro (without a party) said today that he will buy the Russian vaccine against the covid-19 Sputnik V if it is approved by Anvisa (National Health Surveillance Agency).
“If Anvisa approves, we will buy Sputnik. It has a ‘check’ of mine, signed in December, of R $ 20 billion to buy this material,” he said this morning, in an interview broadcast by CNN Brasil. The president left Palácio do Alvorada, in Brasília, to review his motorcycle.
In the last few months, after criticizing CoronaVac, a vaccine produced by the Butantan Institute, linked to the government of São Paulo, Bolsonaro went on to say that he would buy any vaccine that was approved by Anvisa, but had not made direct mention of Sputnik V.
Government decrees lockdown in PA region
The governor of Pará, Helder Barbalho (MDB), announced today that the region of Baixo Amazonas and Calha Norte will enter a lockdown because of the identification of two cases of the Amazonas variant of the new coronavirus in the city of Santarém (PA).
The measure will be valid from midnight on Monday (1st). The region borders on Amazonas, which faced a collapse in the health system in the face of the increase in cases of covid-19 in the last week. The new variant, which was first identified in Manaus and became prevalent in the state, is said to be responsible for the explosion of the disease in the face of a greater potential for transmissibility.
