This is confirmed by the Norwegian Ski Association in a press release on Saturday night.
It says the following:
“Birk Ruud loses medal opportunities in the X Games after he tested positive on Covid 19 tonight Norwegian time.”
Furthermore, it says that the freeskier is in good shape and is isolated according to current guidelines in the USA.
Ruud became slightly ill earlier this week and did not test positive for Covid-19 until the fourth test taken on Saturday night.
– I have had mild symptoms with fever the last few days, but did not test positive until tonight. I actually feel pretty healthy now, but am tired. I will comply with current infection control rules in the United States, says Ruud in the press release.
The 20-year-old thus misses the X Games, one of the winter’s biggest goals.
– Of course very upset, but I can only think positively. I hope to return to competition in a few weeks, says Ruud.
Coach Herman Valø Orheim has been quarantined, while freeskier Ferdinand Dahl is ready to represent Norway in this year’s X Games this weekend.
