Portugal almost doubled the number of deaths from covid-19 in 30 days. In fact, if on December 31 the bulletin from the Directorate-General for Health (DGS) reported 6,906 deaths, in today’s balance it was found that the country reached a total of 12,179 deaths from the new coronavirus.
Despite some fluctuations throughout the month, the number of deaths by covid-19 in Portugal has not returned to three digits.
On the 21st, the country surpassed, for the first time, two hundred deaths, with the DGS bulletin reporting 221 deaths, on a day with 13,987 new infections.
However, it was on January 28 that the record of deaths was broken in just 24 hours, when 303 deaths were recorded in a single day.
Also in terms of hospitalizations, the month of January translated into an increase. On the 31st, the DGS bulletin indicated the existence of 2,840 inpatients, of which 482 were in intensive care units. Today, there are 6,544 people hospitalized by covid-19, 843 of them in intensive care.
The country now accounts for 179,939 active cases, 107,443 more than it recorded at the end of the year.
