Brighton inflicted their second straight loss on Tottenham.
A toothless Tottenham went on a 1-0 loss away against Brighton on Sunday night. A great goal by Leandro Trossard after just over a quarter of an hour was decisive. A very tame Tottenham performance means that Jose Mourinho’s men are in 6th place in the table, eleven points behind league leader Manchester City.
During the match, there was a lot of focus on Gareth Bale’s efforts. Especially what the Welshman showed before the break was of the less impressive kind and the loaned Real Madrid star became the big topic of conversation during the break. The 31-year-old stood as a kind of symbol of Tottenham’s weak performance.
Bale has not started a Premier League match for the London team since the away match against the WBA at the beginning of November 2020. On Sunday, he again got a rare opportunity from the start without impressing significantly.
TV 2’s expert Trevor Morley was slightly shocked during the break by what the Welshman showed.
– He’s terrible. He withdraws from tackles, it does not look like he is with. He does not work for the team. He looks like a rich young man. What he showed before the break was totally shocking, he is lucky if he can continue, was the verdict on Bale during the break.

Bale was allowed to continue after the break, but after one hour he was taken off the field in favor of Lucas Moura.
The home team was totally dominant before the break at home at Amex Stadium. Tottenham did not keep up with the notes and did not produce a single qualified goal chance in the first 45 minutes.
Trossard sent Brighton in the lead after a great attack. Pascal Gross found the Belgian with a great pass which he placed beautifully in the near corner behind Hugo Lloris.

A clearly dissatisfied Jose Mourinho joined his team. The Portuguese may not have been particularly pleased with what he saw. Especially the big star Gareth Bale’s efforts provoked reactions.
Brighton went to the break with a highly deserved 1-0 lead.
The away team came more into the game after the break and substitute Carlos Vinicius got a good opportunity after a corner just after the break, but Brighton goalkeeper Robert Sánchez stopped the end with his foot.
Both teams came to usable chances in the second half. Especially Aaron Connolly’s chance five minutes before the end was huge. On an almost open goal, he managed to hit the foot of a lying Toby Alderweireld who prevented Brigthon from doubling the lead.
The home team resisted in the final minutes and with the victory increases the distance down to Fulham in the last relegation place to seven points.
