Hung explained that tannic acid is a water-soluble polyphenol. The polyphenol compounds have antioxidants and free radical scavengers, which have anti-inflammatory effects. This time, we are facing a new type of coronavirus and the research team conducted detailed molecular experiments for new discoveries.
The director said that tannins can prevent infection and control the growth of viruses. Tannins are easily found in fruits such as bananas and grapes, as well as in wine, tea and vegetables. He explained that tannins can be developed as a drug for pharmaceutical treatment in the future. He believed that consuming adequate foods and drinks with tannins is also a way to increase immunity to the virus. “Grapes and sorghum have a relatively high tannin content. In fact, we are doing research in this area. We hope that, in the near future, we can decide whether wine or baijiu are more potent in tannins, ”explained Hung.
