The colorful game about the mutant Biomutant raccoon seemed intriguing since the announcement itself, but since the end of 2018, little has been heard about it. Earlier this week, Experiment 101 finally announced a release date, and now they’ve revealed what they’ve been doing all this time.
Remember that Biomutant is an action RPG set in an open post-apocalyptic world. The protagonist is something like a raccoon that has undergone dramatic changes at the genetic level. It will be possible to improve it with various skills and abilities, as well as equip it with found, manufactured or obtained equipment (including weapons). The game features other anthropomorphic characters, including huge enemies floating in the air.
Experiment 101 head Stefan Ljungqvist told IGN that only 20 people are developing the action RPG Biomutant. And the ambitious open world game they created was a big challenge for such a small team. Then, last year, the project’s script more than doubled, because the developers wanted to make an advanced karma system, in which NPCs would react to their character’s actions.
In addition, any open world game will inevitably have bugs that need to be fixed before launch. “At the end of a project’s development, you can physically correct only a certain number of errors,” said Lyngqvist. “Especially with such a small team.” He revealed that Experiment 101 did not announce a release date until she was finally confident that the game was ready to avoid any major launch issues. Most importantly, the team that fixes the bugs doesn’t run out.
«Even though we worked overtime, it was under control and on rare occasions. I think now, as we get closer to launch, we’re ready to rework for days, but not all the time. It kills, ”he added. “We are 20 and we cannot allow the team to leave the studio or be destroyed during development. It would be awful. “
Biomutant will be released on May 25 on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
