Vasco and Bahia tie without goals and remain embolized in fight against fall – 01/31/2021

In a game without much emotions, Vasco and Bahia drew 0-0 on Sunday in São Januário. The match was seen as a great opportunity for one of the teams to further distance themselves from the relegation zone. The result, however, was frustrating for the pair, who remain in the ‘confusion zone’.

At 30min of the second half, Vasco even opened the scoring with Catatau, but the VAR was activated. The move was not only canceled but Leandro Castán was sent off for a foul on Douglas.

Vasco reaches 37 points and remains in 14th position in the Brazilian Championship, but with a very short distance for sticking. Cruzmaltino faces Flamengo, on Thursday, at Maracanã.

Bahia, in turn, reaches 36 points and also sees the proximity of the relegation zone with danger – it is the 15th. Tricolor faces Fluminense on Wednesday, at Maracanã.

Desperate in the fight against relegation, Vasco and Bahia saw the feeling reproduce on the field. The first half was much lower than expected with truncated plays in the middle of the field and no goal opportunity. The spectrum of decision that hovers over São Januário prevented looser moves and most players simply tried not to miss.

Vasco almost complicates the ball

Even trying to do the basics so as not to get complicated, Vasco made a mistake that almost cost Bahia a goal. Fernando Miguel sent the ball out, but the opponent made a strong mark and the goalkeeper had to share the ball with Rossi, who almost got the tackle and opened the scoring.

The best chance of the game only happened in the first half. After a corner kick and Thiago stuck inside the area. The ball was still left for Juninho Capixaba, who finished over Fernando Miguel’s goal. Very little for the two teams trying to stay in the first division.

Gilberto and Rossi stop at Fernando Miguel

Just 10 minutes into the second half, Bahia had a fierce counterattack. Gilberto managed to turn over the defense, got rid of the fouls and gave Rossi a great pass. The attacker cut the defense and finished for Fernando Miguel’s good defense.

Vasco wakes up and demands Douglas

The shock with the almost goal of Bahia woke Vasco. The team grew in production and started to create good opportunities to stuff the nets. Benítez got two good shots, but stopped at Douglas. Léo Mattos, on the other hand, missed a header on the first stick. Game heated up in São Januário.

In the same move, Vasco has a goal canceled, and Castán sent off

At 30min of the second half, the move that changed the course of the match. Léo Gil took a free kick and Catatau took advantage of a rebound to score the goal. However, in the same move Leandro Castán had hit the face of goalkeeper Douglas with the sole of his foot, which had to be replaced. the VAR was called, the goal canceled and the defender was sent off.
