Caixa Econômica Federal increased to R $ 12 billion the volume of credit for the Agro Anticipated Cost available for the first semester. Of this amount, which began to be loaned in December last year, around R $ 8 billion have already been contracted, informed on Monday (22) the bank’s president, Pedro Guimarães, during an internet transmission.
“We have R $ 12 billion for the current semester and we have already loaned more than R $ 8 billion. This for the harvest that begins in the middle of 2021, that is, we anticipate, this is a record at Caixa Econômica Federal. They were, before , R $ 3 billion, so we already have four times more than the previous portfolio “, he said. The bank expects that all operations will be contracted by April. Of the total credit offered, R $ 4 billion is for investment and R $ 8 billion is for financing costing, marketing and industrialization activities.
According to Caixa, the resources serve several purposes, especially to finance the expenses of the production cycle of the main crops in the country, such as soybeans, corn, cotton, rice, beans, cassava and coffee, as well as livestock activities.
Among the modalities contemplated in the bank’s rural credit lines, loans for the National Program for Strengthening Family Farming (Pronaf), for the National Program for Supporting the Medium Rural Producer (Pronamp) and for other projects in the field. In the case of Pronaf, aimed at small farmers and agrarian reform settlers, the financing is intended for the purchase of inputs and payment of services, with interest rates starting at 2.75% per year, which varies according to the project financed .
At Pronamp, the costing and investment lines allow financing both expenses inherent to the production cycle, as well as actions for the implementation, expansion or modernization of the production infrastructure and the provision of services related to the improvement of agricultural activity on the property. In addition, they can enable the acquisition of goods or services whose use spans several production periods. The rate starts at 4% per year and varies according to the project financed.
For the Minister of Agriculture, Teresa Cristina, who participated in the live with the president of Caixa, the expansion of the bank’s participation in these investments is essential for agribusiness. “Brazilian agribusiness has grown a lot and we need more banks to arrive,” he said.
According to Caixa, between January and December last year, the volume of funds borrowed in rural credit operations grew 73%, compared to 2019. In the last 8 years, Caixa Econômica lent about R $ 44 billion to the agribusiness sector. The volume is modest compared to agricultural credit operations of other banks with strong penetration in the sector, such as Banco do Brasil, but, according to Pedro Guimarães, Caixa’s goal is to expand the annual agricultural credit portfolio to R $ 40 billion by the end of 2022.
During a live, the president of Caixa Econômica also gave details about the opening of 21 new agencies specialized in agribusiness. Each of them will have a structure and team dedicated to the exclusive service of rural producers.
According to the bank, the municipalities that will receive units specialized in agribusiness were defined considering the bank’s strategy for the sector and the potential for the market in the regions (check the complete list below).
