Last Monday (22), Santos officially signed coach Ariel Holan, ex-Catholic University (CHI). Peixe will only be the fourth club in the career of the 60-year-old captain, who has had experience as a coach in another sport.
Born in Lomas de Zamora, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Holan started his career playing field hockey, but soon left the profession to become a coach for 18 years.
In 2003, she led the Uruguayan women’s team to the Pan American Games bronze.
In the same year, however, he changed his sport. The Argentine was hired to assist Jorge Burruchaga in the Arsenal de Sarandi, from Argentina. In the following years, he worked for several clubs in the country as an assistant and performance analyst, until he assumed the position of coach of the Defense and Justice, in 2015.

Until then a team of little expression, Defensa gained prominence in the hands of Holan. The team even fought for the national title in 2016, but saw the Lanús raise the cup. And the commander’s main tool for success was looking at the base.
In 2017, Ariel was hired by Independent, your heart club. In his first year, he also chose to use silverware from the house and took the team to the Copa Sudamericanadefeating the Flamengo in the decision, in the middle of Maracanã.
Despite the strong connection with the team, he announced that he would step down at the end of that season, as he was suffering a lot of pressure from organized fans. However, he eventually reached an agreement with the board and agreed to stay in Avellaneda, where he stayed until the middle of 2019.
Five months later, he took over Universidad Católica, from Chile, where he won the national championship, dominating the tournament from end to end. At Conmebol Libertadores, gave work to Inter e Guild, his group opponents, but ended up only in third place and, therefore, guaranteeing a place in the South American. In Sula, he dropped in the quarterfinals, losing to Velez Sarsfield, from Argentina.

Over these little more than five years as a coach, Holan has already demonstrated that his preference for style of play is with a quality ball output and a very fast transition to attack. When there are no speed men available, the tendency is to switch to high blood pressure, forcing the opponent’s mistake.
In his first speech as a Santos coach, including, Holan has already highlighted his mentality, both in relation to tactical issues and on the base categories.
“I am very happy to manage Santos, a club with so many players like Pelé and Neymar. It will be a challenge to participate in one of the most balanced leagues in the world, but I fully trust that we will deliver a good result to the fans with an offensive mentality and that the younger players will be used with the most experienced. I know it is a very big responsibility, but I am excited ”, he said.
Looking for helpers for his coaching staff, Ariel Holan should arrive at Peixe by the end of this week, with his debut scheduled only for the Paulista championship.
