Spotify is more Portuguese. Monday, during the Spotify Stream On online event, a new version of the music streaming platform was announced, in “Portuguese of Portugal”, and an official Instagram account dedicated to the national public was presented. Founder and CEO Daniel Ek also unveiled some of the new features of the service and what he expects for the future.
The Spotify HiFi service was another novelty announced. Until the end of the year, in some markets, premium subscribers will be able to pay an additional fee to access high-fidelity audio. A partnership was also revealed with Anchor, a podcast creation platform, and with WordPress, which will allow creators to use new features such as adding images, questionnaires or other interactive options.
During the conference it was also presented Renegades: Born in the USA, a new podcast that joins former President of the United States, Barack Obama, and singer Bruce Springsteen to the conversation. In the first of eight episodes, which can already be heard, the duo discusses topics ranging from parenting, to marriage, to racial issues and the social situation in the United States.
Spotify is also available in over 85 new countries around the world, such as Nigeria, Tanzania, Uganda, Mozambique, Bangladesh or Pakistan, and in 36 new languages. It is estimated that this addition of markets will allow the brand to reach more than 1 billion people. In 2020, Spotify had 345 million active users, of which 155 million are subscribers.
